Christ-Center Academics

High Spiritual Standards

Evangel Christian Academy is committed to high academic and spiritual standards, developing the whole person.  Emphasis is placed on learning about God and the student’s world in relationship to the truths of God’s Word.  Evangel  recognizes that a right relationship with God comes through personal faith in Jesus Christ and that Christian maturity comes by application of biblical truths in all areas of life.  Chapel services and mandatory Bible classes are an integral  part of campus life

High Academic Standards

Evangel Christian Academy is accredited by the Louisiana Department of Education and all of its faculty members are required to comply to the same standards as public school teachers.  They must have teacher certification in the State of Louisiana, qualified and actively pursuing certification, or teaching in the field in which they majored.  The school has also received accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-CASI).  Evangel administrators, faculty and staff are committed educational professionals who care about the educational and spiritual well-being of their students.

Indicators of Education Excellence

  • Annual Literary Rally - Each year Evangel high school students participate in the Louisiana Literary Rally. In 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 & 2010 Evangel students won the first place sweepstakes in Division III, winning over other excellent schools. In the past four years, at least thirteen Evangel students have placed at the statewide Literary Rally level, with multiple students winning first place in the state.

  • Iowa Tests and LEAP Scores - On the standardized Iowa tests, Evangel students scored 10 to 20 percent above the statewide public school norm, with many students working one to two year above grade level.  The LEAP exams are required Louisiana exams which assess whether students are on target academically.  Evangel has demonstrated high academic standards through the continued success of its students on these exams.

  • National Awards - Four students received national recognition awards.  Two have received the National Merit Scholar award, a high honor earned by less than 8,000 U.S. students per year.  Two others have received the National Achievement Scholar award, a top honor for African American students.

  • College Scholarships Awarded - For the past five graduating classes, seniors have qualified for over $1.5 million in academic and athletic scholarships from colleges and universities across the nation.  Ninety-six students in the class of 2004 collectively earned $1.6 million.  Here’s a breakdown of the funds received:  Academic    scholarships - $1.03 million; athletic scholarships - $538,000; fine arts scholarships - $10,750; and miscellaneous - $15,900.  Students take advantage of the Louisiana TOPS scholarship program, as well as receiving scholarships to other prestigious U.S. universities -- Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Southern Methodist University (SMU), Pepperdine, Vanderbilt and others.

The Arts

The arts are flourishing at Evangel Christian Academy.  Music, arts, and drama are offered as enrichment electives.  Musical performances, which include drama, singing, choreography, and musical accompaniment by our band students, are presented several times each year.

Music

Music is a critical component of the culture at Evangel.  With the Praise and Worship Team students lead the student body in weekly chapel services into the presence of God through music.

Visual Art

Visual arts is a popular enrichment class at the middle/high school campus.  All age students have competed successfully in Shreveport’s annual ArtBreak competition each year since 1991.

Drama

A full-scale musical is presented each year with a cast that includes middle and high school students.  Some of the past offerings include the following:  The Best of Broadway, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Hello Dolly, Godspell, The Best of Broadway, and South Pacific. Special Christmas programs and other dramatic presentations by children at all grade levels help students develop their talents and leadership abilities. Students have won spots in the State Drama Festival, All-State Choir, All-State Band, and top honors at the regional ArtBreak talent show and visual arts showcase. Evangel has prepared a number of graduates to step into their dream of working in the entertainment industry, media, theater, musical performance, and Christian music.

Film & Media

Students in the Film and Media class learn the art of script writing, film directing, production and content delivery.  The Evangel Film and Media class produce short films, week news broadcasts for the school and every Friday night deliver a 100% student run live internet broadcast of all home football games. In 2010 Evangel started a statewide Festival to showcase student directed films.

Spirit Groups

The Evangel Wings Dance Team is a great opportunity for students to perform in the art of dance at local and state competitions and during sporting events.  The Praise Dance team at Evangel focuses on worshiping the Lord through dance and preforms at chapel services, church services and sporting events.

Athletics

Evangel Christian Academy offers a wide variety of athletic opportunities for boys and girls of all ages.  Physical education classes are part of the daily curriculum, and extracurricular sports are available for children who desire to pursue and develop their talents in the physical arena.
