Our Goal

To develop lifelong love for reading in our students.

Our Book Collection
The Evangel Elementary Library contains over 5,000 books in addition to audiovisual materials, magazines, and software. The books are divided into five areas of the library: fiction, non-fiction, easy, reference and professional (for teachers). We have a great selection of over 2,000 nonfiction books including everything you would want to know about sports, history, religion, dinosaurs, pet care, plants, and animals just to name a few. In addition, there are story collections of popular series such as Nancy Drew, Junie B. Jones, Chronicles of Narnia, Hardy Boys, Magic Tree House, Dr. Seus and others. We also have over 900 great easy reader books geared for students in Kinder through 2nd grade. Students have access to three computer stations for research, catalog searches and internet access for student reports.

 Book Borrowing
Every class in the school visits the library one time per week for a 45-minute session. Library research and reading comprehension skills are taught at this time. Book checkout privileges are available to faculty, staff, and to students as follows: Students in 5th and 6th grade are allowed to check out 4 books for one week. Students in 4th and 3rd grade are allowed to check out 2 books for one week. Students in 2nd and 1st grade are allowed to check out 1 book for one week. Students in kindergarten do not have checkout privileges; teachers may check out books on their behalf. The library check out system is computerized, therefore every book has a title barcode number and the computer verifies that materials are checked out to the correct person. We do not charge late fees for overdue books, but students must pay for lost or damaged books. Overdue notices are printed by the librarian and sent home by the classroom teacher.

Reading Incentive Program
Our school follows the most popular reading incentive program Accelerated Reader, which operates all year long with teacher/librarian collaboration. The Accelerated Reader List is posted on our website but is also available in the library for reference. The AR program helps encourage reading comprehension because students earn points based on passing reading quizzes every time they read a book.  Certificates are awarded to the students for successfully completing benchmarks.

Our overall goal is to encourage our students to develop a lifelong love of reading. We keep adding new selections of books so stop by and see what’s new at the library.
